Battle of Leatherwood gets Pioneer Village cabin

On Sept. 3, a cabin from the Pioneer Village was moved to the battlefield of the Battle of Leatherwood. The Knott County Fiscal Court donated the cabin and other Pioneer Village buildings to the BOL last year, but the transportation of the buildings have just recently begun. Additional planning has been done to move the shelter and the two-story building, and work will continue as funding permits, said BOL representatives. “We expect to use the cabin in the same manner as it was at Pioneer Village,” said Kerry Crutcher, chairman of the Battle of Leatherwood Reenactment Corp., explaining that the cabin will be used as a gift shop to sell handmade items by local people. Crutcher said the BOL group hopes to have the cabin operational by the reenactment scheduled for Oct. 25-27.
