Galen graduates sixth class

On Friday, Jan. 10, students and staff of Galen College of Nursing celebrated the school’s sixth graduation commencement since its opening in March 2017. During the commencement, 31 graduates walked the stage and received their nursing degrees. Graduates included: Katlyn Anderson; Lisa Anderson; Jessica Banks; Iris Blanton; Tessa Boggs; Autumn Bowling; Angela Collins; Caitlin Collins; Meranda Cook; Brittany Crum; Kelsi Eldridge; William Eversole; Kassidy Fugate; Amber Goins; Victoria Jackson; Janice James; Sasha Jones; Justin Messer; Millicent Owens; Valerie Philbeck; Keela Ratliff; Megan Reed; Sarah Reed; Victoria Reynolds; Christina Roberts; Glenda Root; Kristy Saylor; Damara Stacy; Misty Warren; Lawren Washburn; and Brittany Whitaker. The ceremony included the Nursing Pledge, which was recited during the Ceremony of Lights, and the graduates also received their nursing pins, a 1,000-year old symbol of service to others. Special awards were also given during the graduation ceremony. Keela Ratliff received the “Dr. Marjorie Perrin Human Touch Award,” William Austin Eversole received the “Kathryn Mershon Emerging Leader in Nursing Award,” Glenda Root was named Valedictorian and Misty Warren was named Salutatorian. The program offers two programs at the Hazard campus. One is a two-year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), and the other is a 15-18 month bridge program for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to continue their education in pursuit of their associate degree and subsequently their RN.
