GEAR UP week celebrated at Hazard Middle School

National GEAR UP Week, Sept. 23-27, is being celebrated all week at Hazard Middle School. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a discretionary federal grant program designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post secondary education. As part of the initiative to jumpstart the week, Hazard Independent Schools Superintendent Sondra Combs gathered with GEAR UP Staff Karen Hall, Michell Hardy and Mitch Fields, along with the 8th grade Leadership group of Hazard Middle School, to sign an official proclamation to declare the week of Sept. 23-27 GEAR UP Week in the Hazard Independent Schools.
