The Hazard Police Department is now fully functioning at its new location at 200 Main Street, the former location of McDonald’s restaurant.
Deputy Chief James East said that the move has been a long time coming.
“We’ve actually had the building for a couple of years and just through the process of getting it ready, that, in itself, builds excitement,” said East. “But now that we’re actually in the building, we’ve got a lot more space.” East said that HPD’s new location will allow the department to respond to calls faster and better aid the community.
“We’re able to serve the public a lot better where we’re not in the middle of town, our accessibility to be able to get to a call is going to be greater because we don’t have to fight downtown traffic,” said East. “If we turn right, we can go to the south end of the county and if we turn left then we can go to the north end of the county.”
East said that he and the rest of the officers at Hazard Police Department are happy with the move.
“It will offer us a greater ability to serve our residents here in Hazard,” said East.
