A Hazard man and woman have been indicted for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the Kentucky River Regional Jail in March using a prosthetic leg.
Heather Sebastian, 32, of Hazard, and Joseph Thomas, 32, of Hazard, were arrested in March on a charge of first-degree promoting contraband.
According to the indictment, in March, Joseph Thomas, an inmate at the Kentucky River Regional Jail, had Heather Sebastian place pills (suboxone and gabapentin) and tobacco products in his prosthetic leg in order to introduce contraband into the jail.
Thomas’s bail has been set at $5,000 cash and he is set to appear before Judge Alison Wells in Perry County Circuit Court for arraignment on May 9. Sebastian’s bail is set in the amount of $5,000 surety and her arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 15.
