Kentucky State Police officers are investigating the death of a Knott County woman, who officers said was found unresponsive in a field.
On Dec. 24, the Perry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding an unresponsive woman in a field in Perry County, police said.
KSP spokesman, Master Trooper Jody Sims said that when sheriff’s office personnel responded to the scene, a grassy field off of Ky. 476 near the Bulan Post Office, the woman was found alive, but unresponsive in the field.
Trooper Sims said the female was then transported by the Perry County Ambulance to Hazard ARH Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner John Collett with the Perry County Coroner’s Office.
The deceased woman was identified as April N. Higgins, 30, of Sassafras in Knott County.
KSP Post 13 was contacted by Perry 911 and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the investigation, Sims said.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 26 at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. Det. Josh Huff with KSP Post 13 is leading the investigation. No further details were available as of presstime, Sims said.
