The research identified that ischemic strokes, which are caused by a blockage of blood flow to the brain, could cause upwards of 6 million deaths in the near future.
The researchers noted that the news wasn't all bad. Overall, the rates of strokes across America and the world have been declining. But, with an aging population and improper management of risk factors--strokes could pose a great risk to people's health and wellness.
The report called for proper management of "a combination of lifestyle factors like smoking and a diet high in sodium along with other factors such as high blood pressure and high body mass index" to better reduce the chances of strokes.
