Lena Anderson

Lena Faye Anderson, 81, of Jeff, died Monday, December 16, 2019, at her residence.

She was born November 7, 1938, the daughter of the late Jake Ritchie and the late Mima Ritchie.  She was a retired school teacher for the Hazard Independent School System. She was a member of the First Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Bishop Anderson.

She is survived by special cousins, Bud and Ada Gadbury, Jermey and April Gadbury, Aiden and Chloe, and a host of many other cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 20 at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Rev. A.D. Pete McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the Jink Ritchie Cemetery.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Elizabeth Lou Brewer, 79, of London, died Friday, December 13, 2019, at her residence in London.

She was born in Dwarf, August 7, 1940, the daughter of the late James Stacy and the late Eva Stacy.  She enjoyed working in her flower garden, spending time with her friends and family and riding her four wheeler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Stacy and Danny Stacy; two sisters, Alice Whited and Aileen Noble.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Brewer of London; daughter, Teresa Perry (Richard) of Mich.; four sisters, Vonnie Tarter of Ary, Krenda Gray of Louisville, Shirlynn Noble of Chavies and Katie Marcum of Ala.; two grandchildren, Rick Perry, Robert Perry; four great grandchildren, Grayson Perry, Brystol Perry, Novah Perry and Sydney Perry; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Merril David Collins officiating.  Burial followed in the Smith Cemetery, Ary.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Christine Couch, 84, of Winchester, formerly of Busy, died Friday, December 13, 2019, at Central Baptist Hospital.

She was born in Lost Creek, April 16, 1935, the daughter of the last Othello Neace and the late Eurabane Neace.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Jan Hurley and Ted Hurley, Jr.; and a host of brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Bert Couch of Winchester; daughter, May Ann Couch Engle (George) of Lexington; Tammy Pratt (Tim) of Winchester; Phyllis Hurley of OH.; son, Kenny Hurley of OH.; brother, Charlie Neace of Breathitt County; sister, Laverne Noble of Caney; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Joe Engle and Nathan Fugate officiating.  Burial followed in the Fields Cemetery, Couchtown.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Mary Eversole Fields, 95, of Nicholasville, died Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Baptist Health.

She was born September 8, 1924, the daughter of the late George Standafer and the late Polly Eversole Stidham.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Fields; five sons, Willis, Ronnie, Elmer, Noah and Bobby Fields; one daughter, Georgia Fields; one brother, Willie Eversole; and two granddaughters, Marla and Lisa.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Fosnaug of Ind., Brenda Easterling (Charles) of Acup, Angela Bailey (Larry) of Nicholasville; four sons, Joe Fields of Ind., Marcus Fields (Julie) of Fla., Rodney Fields (Brenda) of Ind., Steve Fields (Debbie) of Ind.; 49 grandchildren; 105 great grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating.  Burial followed in the Standafer Cemetery, Scuddy.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

She was born October 13, 1933, the daughter of the late George Engle and the late Peggie Gayhart Engle.  She was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Jones; one granddaughter, Nikara Noel Jones; four brothers, Luther, Sherman, Irvine and Ed Engle; and three sisters, Dolly Combs, Lula Patrick and Rachel Chaney.

She is survived by one daughter, Deb Hatton (Jimmy) of Hazard; two sons, Ray Jones (Anita) of Lost Creek, Gary Jones of Lost Creek; three grandchildren, Jamie Combs (Ethan), Josh Hatton (Samantha) and Nicholas Jones (Megan); four great grandchildren, Morgan Combs, Jordan Combs (Hayley), Saul Jones and Ethan Grisham; special friends, Aldeen Campbell and Snowy Mae Gayheart; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 15, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Rev. Densmore Goodson and Rev. Joe Engle officiating.  Burial followed in the Jones Cemetery, Lost Creek.  Pallbearers included, Josh Hatton, Nicholas Jones, Jordan Combs, Ethan Combs, Toby Combs and Jeff “Crow” Mullins.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Robin “Mister” Stidham, 75, of Hazard, died Tuesday, December 9, 2019, at the U.K. Medical Center.

He was born in Hazard, November 12, 1944, the son of the late Jarrett Stidham and the late Vivian Miller Stidham. He was a Deacon at the Neace Memorial Church and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Courtney Stidham and Willie Stidham; three sisters, Ada Smith, Betty Watts and Lodessia.

He is survived by his wife, Carlee Stidham; godchildren, Joshua Charles Combs (Terry), Scarlett Combs and Layla Combs; four brothers, Don C. Stidham (Norma Jean), H Kermitt Stidham (Maxine), Herman “Redman” Stidham, Kenneth “Pollock” Stidham (Charlene); two sisters, Nancy Ann Hensley, Nannie Howard (Jay); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Friday, December 13, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Bobby Collins officiating.  Burial followed in the Stidham Family Cemetery, Hazard.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

She was born in Johnson County, January 23, 1949, the daughter of the late Garth Trimble and the late Lida Fitch Trimble.  She was retired from the Perry County School Board where she was a teacher for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gwendolyn Jones; grandmother, Hazel Trimble; grandparents, Albert Fitch and Leona.

She is survived by her brother, Wendell Trimble (Deborah) of Berea; two nieces, Alisha Hughes (Harold) of Hazard, Caitriona Trimble of Berea; two great nieces, Kimberly Hughes of Hazard, Kynlee Hughes of Hazard; two great nephews, Anthony Hughes of Hazard, Austin Hughes of Hazard; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Merril David Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Creek Side Cemetery, Hazard.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Phillip Lee Upchurch, 72, of Hazard, died Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Eastern Kentucky VA Center.

He was born September 20, 1947, the son of the late Dr. D.L. Upchurch and the late Christine Boylan Upchurch.  He was a United States Air Force Veteran and a member of the Catholic Faith.  He is a retired maintenance supervisor for the Perry County School System.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Caudill Upchurch.

He is survived by one daughter, Christy Deaton of Hazard; one son, Joseph Upchurch of Hazard; two sisters, Carolyn White (John) of Tenn., Pat Lindon (Gary) of Hazard; one brothers, John Upchurch (Joyce) of N. Car.; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at the Maggard Brothers Funeral Home with Father Bob Damron officiating.  Burial will follow at the Charlie Caudill Cemetery, Viper.  Arrangements were under the direction Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard.
