Herma Baker

Herma June Baker, 85, formerly of Perry County, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at her residence in Louisville.

She was born in Perry County, March 10, 1934, the daughter of the late Garfield Baker and late Mary Couch Baker.  She moved to Louisville in 1955 and retired from Prudential Insurance Company after 36 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Madeline Baker Strunk; two brothers, Roy and Rex Baker; one niece, Karen Struck Skeens; and one nephew, Greg Baker.

She is survived by one sister, Geraldine Brashear; five nieces, Deloris Henson, Jenny Rumpler, Denise Brashear, Sharon Williams and Lisa Vannest; five nephews, Terry Baker, Roger Baker, Rodney Baker, Joe Baker and Blake Brashear; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Rev. Adam Feltner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garfield Baker Cemetery, Big Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

In lieu of flowers family request donations to be made towards a charity of their choice.  The family would like to give a special thanks to her two nieces, Jenny and Deloris for taking care of their Aunt June and also a thank you to Hosparus in Louisville for the love, kindness and care they showed especially Heather Cronin and her team.

Millie Elizabeth G. Begley, 94, of Hazard, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Hazard Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born December 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Roy Grigsby and the late Harriet Napier Grigsby.  She was a member of the Airport Gardens Baptist Church as well as a graduate of the Bowling Green Business School where she earned a degree in accounting, then came back home to work many years as the bookkeeper for the Kelly & Sturgill Coal Company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Opsie Hoffman, Minta Skaggs and Jeanette Barker; as well as one brother, Roy Hurst.

She is survived by one son, Dan (Mary) Begley of Hazard; one sister, Laura Grigsby of Hazard; seven nephews; one niece; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with R.T. Barker officiating.  Burial followed in the Sam Napier Cemetery, Upper Second Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Paul David “JJ” Campbell, 68, of Hazard, died Friday, June 7, 2019, at Hazard ARH

He was born May 5, 1951, the son of the late Woodrow Campbell and the late Lora Combs Campbell.  He was a retired truck driver for Clemons Trucking and Noble Trucking.  He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.  He enjoyed attending the LKLP Compassionate Hearts Adult Daycare.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and LR; and one sister, June Richardson.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea Caudill Campbell; one daughter, Gabrielle Campbell of Dice; one son, PD (Florida) Campbell of Viper; four sisters, Genevieve Uhren of Chicago, Ill, Gertrude (Eli) Henley of Jackson, Tenn., Bobbie Jean (Harold) Reed of Fairfield, Oh., Phyllis (Roy) Chenault of Versailles; two brothers, Clifton “Rock” (Joyce) Campbell of Dice, Kenneth Woodrow (Janice) Campbell of Dice; mother-in-law, Vallery Caudill; special friend, Tim Jones; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Densmore Goodson, Michael Melton and Roy Chenault officiating.  Burial followed in the Campbell Cemetery, Sixteen Mile Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Rosie Mae Centers, 91, of Florida, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

She was born in Decherd, Tenn., May 17, 1928.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Centers; one son, Johnny Centers; and a host of many brothers and sisters.  She will always be remembered as a sweet and sassy woman who loved the Lord.

She is survived by five sons, Jack (Patricia) Centers of Fleming Island, Fla, Grover Centers of Fleming Island, Fla, Buford Jr. (Doshia) Centers of Austin, Ind., Billy (Connie) Centers of Otway, Oh, Danny (Teresa) Centers of Viper; one daughter, Edith (Dewey) Campbell of Fleming Island, Fla,; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four step- great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Caudill officiating.  Burial followed in the Centers Cemetery, Big Branch, Viper.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Donna Lee Combs, 65, of Bonnyman, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at UK Medical Center.

She was born in Indiana, March 14, 1954, the daughter of the late Herman Eldridge and the late Ruby Sizemore.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristie Pennington.  She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Estill Combs of Bonnyman; one son, Estill Combs Jr. (Terri) of Tenn; two daughters, Rhonda Pennington Brewer (Brian Cornett) of Happy, Courtney Lynn Combs (Cody Smith) of Bonnyman; brother, Curt Eldridge of Ind.; two sisters, Mary Usry Doyle (Allen) of Ga., Darlene Duzan of N. Car.; special friend, Sheila Colwell of Hazard; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Densmore Goodson officiating.  Burial followed in the Combs Cemetery, Upper Pigeon Roost.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

She was born January 1, 1936, the daughter of the late Ulous Hurt and the late Pearlie Combs Hurt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Feltner; two sons, Ralph Feltner Jr. and John Keith Feltner; and two sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Clarence Randall Feltner of Hazard, Marty L. Feltner of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Alice Morris of Lotts Creek; four grandchildren, Alexis, Pierce, Riley and Melissa; and a host of family and friends.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Gibson; two sons, Mark Gibson (Mary) of Leburn, Michael Wayne Gibson of Bonnyman; four sisters, Norma Gibson of Yerkes, Ruby Couch of Bonnyman, Brenda Holland of Bonnyman, Joyce Miniard of Hazard; three brothers, Lonnie Gibson of Letcher County, Eugene Gibson of Oh., Jimmy Gibson of Oh.; six grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Brittney), Tiffany (Brian), Austin, Tiffany, Kyle (Tyesha) and Lucas; six great grandchildren, Peyton, Hailey, Dakota, Chloe, Christian and Caden; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with William Morris and Carl Wayne Johnson officiating.  Burial followed in the Eversole Cemetery, Hazard.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

James Edward “Jim” Ross, 67 of Huber Heights, died Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on September 12, 1951, the son of James Harvey & Edith (Dixon) Ross. He was a member of the Local IBEW #71 in Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death, his granddaughter Hailey Ross; and brother, Danny Ross.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet (Augustin) Ross; children, Jimmy (Jennifer) Ross and Angela (Brandon) Mills; grandchildren Hannah Ross, Jayden, Zayden and Hayden Mills; sisters Linda Smith, Alice Jones, Margrette Ross and Shirley Schwartz; brothers Joe, John, Garlan, Eugene, Frank, Wayne, Harvey and Britt Ross; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Blessing-Zerkle Funeral Home 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City, Oh.  Burial followed in the Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.  Arrangements were under the direction of Blessing-Zerkle Funeral Home of Tipp City.

Jean K. Wooton, 94, of Buckhorn, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center.

She was born December 9. 1924, the daughter of the late Crit Keen and the late Osha Begley Keen.  She enjoyed playing the piano and music, which led her to go to college and earn a music degree and was also a member of the Buckhorn Lake Area Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clyde Darraugh Wooton; as well as four brothers, Quinten, Edwin, Robert “Bobby” and Leon Keen.

She is survived by two sons, Robert D Wooton and Dwight D. Wooton both of Buckhorn; one daughter, Denise Reed of Upper Second Creek; three grandchildren, Dwight D. Wooton Jr., Rebecca A. Redd, and Robert A. Redd; as well as two great-grandchildren, Benjamin H. Wooton and Bryce H. Wooton.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Buckhorn Lake Area Presbyterian Church with Tom and Gail Burns officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Buckhorn Lake Area Presbyterian Church 300 Buckhorn Lane Buckhorn, KY 41721.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard.
