Christine Combs

Christine Sellars Combs, 98, of Hazard, died Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Greg a& Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center.

She was born in Alais, June 20, 1926, the daughter of the late Walter Sellars and the late Dicie Campbell Sellars.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Combs; daughter, Joyce Christine Lamb; son, Dennis Walter Combs; brother, Carlos Ray Sellars; two sisters, Geneva Couch and Wanda Jean Adams; grandchild, Jamie Greene. She was a member of the Maple Street Church of God, and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Hurst Gene Combs (Rebecca) of Combs, Dorse Combs (Linda) of Combs; two daughers, Connie Greene (James) of Atlanta, Ga., Theresa Sexton (Ferris) of Combs; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 14, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating.  Burial followed in the Combs Family Cemetery, Combs.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon’s International Association.

Melissa Couch, 50, of Jackson, died Thursday, October 3, 2019, at KY River Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Donnie Ritchie officiating.  Burial followed in the Johnson Cemetery, Chavies.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Millas Wendell Huff, 79, of Emmalena, died Tuesday, October 8, 2019.  He was a US Navy Veteran.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 11, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Joann and Lonnie Napier officiating.  Burial followed in the Kilburn-Coots Cemetery, Avawam.  Military Rites were performed by the Hazard-Perry County D.A.V. Chapter #64.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Christine Baker Jent, 69, of Florence, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

She was born July 20, 1950, the daughter of the late Curtis Baker and the late Effie Mae Fugate Baker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Jent; son-in-law, Billy Ray Mayes; three sisters, Geraldine Campbell, Eva Bryant and Neil Haslip; and two brothers, G.C. Baker, Curtis Baker Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Lynn Jent of OH., Tammy Jent Mayes of Alexandria; one son, Larry Wayne Jent (Rene) of Burlington; one sister, Nancy Campbell (Carl) of Ind.; two brothers, Bill Baker (Liz) of Hazard, Bert Baker (Shirley) of Big Creek; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Brandon, Kristen, Cheyenne, Sydney, Kylee and Nathan; two great grandchildren, Nova and Blake; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 17, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with J.L. McIntosh and Billy Vanover officiating.  Burial will follow in the Carrs Fork Cemetery, Knott County.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Larry Michael Shepherd, 64, of Slemp, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Hazard ARH.

He was born August 10, 1955, the son of the late Alvra Shepherd and Usley Callahan Shepherd.  He was a retired welder.

He is survived by his fiancé, Alice Holbrook Shepherd; two daughters, Olivia Usley Lashae Shepherd, Jacqueline Mary Elizabeth Shepherd; five sons, Cory Michael Johan Shepherd, Jacob Daniel Avra Shepherd, Gabriel Allen Oneal Shepherd, William Isiah Shepherd, Matthew Blake Shepherd; two sisters, Janice Phipps, Brenda Griffin; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Eugene Baker officiating.  Burial followed in the Ison Cemetery, Slemp.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.
