Darrell Baker

Darrell Austin Baker, 21, of Sacramento, died Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 4:13PM in Hanson.  

He was born January 18, 1998, in Perry County.  He was the son of Crystal and Darrell Baker. He was a coal miner.  

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lillie Belle Colwell, Jeff Baker, and James Green; special grandparent Verdia Baker; special friend Matthew Asher; and aunts and uncles Frank Hamblin, Frank and Vivian Stevens, and Betty Gullet.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Georgetta Frankie Ann Baker; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Toni and Gary Green; grandparents Eugene Colwell, Bethel Baker, Mary Green; and Bertha and Larry Miller; sisters-in-law Santana Green, Chrissy Green, and Christine Lewis; a host of aunts and uncles, Tim and Bobbie Colwell, Darrell and Ruby Williams, Jeffery Baker, James and Laura Fugate, Michael and Melissa Wooten, Wesley and Tammy Godsey, David and Gabby Baker, Jackie and Angela Baker, Nicole Baker, Zack and Marilyn Sizemore, Charlie and Sharon Green, James “Buggy” and Tammy Green, all from Hazard, and William and Ashlea Baker from Pikeville; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 25, at the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Jimmy Riley officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Tucker Funeral Home of Central City.

Mildred Baker

Mildred Baker, 84 of Busy, died Monday, August 26, 2019, at Hazard ARH.

She was born in Hazard, December 15, 1934, the daughter of the late Tinsley Baker and the late Alcie Baker.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Baker; one daughter, Barbara Baker; two brothers, Arvle Baker and Arlie Baker; one sister, Reba Hamblin.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Collins (Bill) of Busy, Sandra Whitaker of Busy; one brother, Marshall Baker of Ind.; five sisters, Betty Lou Stidham of Ind., Seba Hanko of Lexington, Helen Dixon of Mich., Thelma King of Mich., Barbara Owens of Tex.; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Pastor Dean DeMaris officiating.  Burial will follow in the Estes Colwell Cemetery, Busy.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Jeanie Gayhart

Jeanie Gayhart, 62, of Hazard, died Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

She was born March 10, 1957, the daughter of Jenny Lou Fugate Combs and the late VG Combs.  She was the owner of C&G Trucking and also a manager of Ben’s Quick Stop.  She was a faithful member of the County Line Community Church where she fulfilled the role as the pianist.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Darrell Gayhart; one daughter, Amber Brooke Spicer (Ryan); one son, Micah Gayhart (Tanya); one brother, Bennie Combs (Rosita); and a host of family, friends, and Church family.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 24, at the County Line Community Church with Rev. Anthony Mullins and Rev. Teddy Bailey officiating.  Entombment will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Hazard.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Pearl Napier

Pearl Napier, 94, formerly of Perry County died Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Hospice of Lake Cumberland in Somerset.

He was born November 15, 1924, the son of the late Drew Napier and the late Polly Campbell Napier Engle.  For 20 years he was a truck driver for Cummins Diesel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Wooten Napier; two sisters, Liza Slone and Laura Hensley; and three brothers, Lewis, Cecil and Lloyd Napier.

He is survived by two daughters, Billie Jean Walker (Raymond), Joyce Lane Napier; two grandchildren, Denise Wilson (Kevin Drew); Kim Napier (Scott); two great grandchildren, Elisabeth Wilson, Jarrett Napier; two step grandchildren, Lynn Combs (Craig), Vicki Nelke (Josh); special friend, Vivian Nickles; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 24, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Denzil Ratliff and Randall Short officiating.  Burial followed in the Balis Napier Cemetery, Lotts Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Opal Irene Noble, 72, of Clayhole, died Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Hazard ARH.

She was born November 22, 1946, the daughter of the late Haven Smith and the late Christine Bush Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, June Smith and Betty Miller; and three brothers, Benny Smith, Roy Smith and Ellis Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Alma Jean Jones (Taylor) of Pigeon Roost; one son, Jerry Daryl Holland (Leslie) of Pigeon Roost; two sisters, Eve Sue Crouse of OH., Agnes Banks of Hazard; three brothers, Charlie Smith of OH, Steven Smith (Rose Mary) of Pigeon Roost, Haven Smith Jr. of OH; one grandchild, Justin Caudill; special friends, James Harvey, Cynthia Harvey Couch and Linda Fields; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was born in Hazard, September 28, 1984, the son of Mary Deaton.

“Bread” Stacy

Dennis “Bread” Stacy, 59, of Hazard, died Thursday, August 22, 2019, at U.K. Medical Center.

He was born in Hazard, December 11, 1959, the son of the late John Wesley Stacy and the late Blanche Stacy.  He was a retired heavy machine operator in the coal mines, a member of the Upper Second Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Jack Stacy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Short Stacy; two daughters, Jamie Neace (Thomas) of Upper Second Creek, Jessica Williams (Anthony) of Upper Second Creek; two brothers, Danny Stacy (Cheryl) of Upper Second Creek, Terry Stacy (Bonnie) of Lotts Creek; six grandchildren, Jayden, Madison, Emmalee, Jarrett, Parker and Tucker; beloved pet, Jack; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday, August, 25, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Randall Short and Thomas Neace officiating.  Burial followed in the Stacy-Combs Cemetery, Upper Second Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

She was born March 15, 1927, the daughter of the late John D Combs and the late Bertha Nelson Combs.

She is survived by three daughters, special daughter and caretaker, Bertha Audrey Sumner (Danny W Gibson) of Acup, Lana Lenora Hurley (Gary) of Georges Branch, Cora Lee Walker (James C.) of Acup; one son, Denver Sumner Jr. (Diana L.) of Big Creek; eight grandchildren, Denver, Angela, Tonya, Thomas, Quinton, Dustin, Jon and Joshua; 11 great grandchildren, Williams, Emily H. Denver Chalmer, Coby, Emma, Ollie, Garrett, Grayson, Matthew and Cody; special friend and Doctor, Terry Smith; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, at the Lotts Creek Community Church with Charles Ed Smith officiating.  Burial followed in the Combs-Sumner Cemetery, Acup.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard.

Connie Gale Wells, 67, of Lexington, formerly of Hazard, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at her residence.

She was born in Perry County, May 16, 1952, the daughter of Seba Stamper Raleigh and the late Hershel Raleigh.  She was a bookkeeper and owner of B & W Resources, Wells Logging Company and Timberland Kawasaki Polaris Inc. of Hazard.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jeffrey Hershel Raleigh.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, David Wells; two daughters, Heather Francis (Travis), Brittany Inguagiato (Bobby); three sons, Shannon Asbury (April), Eric Wells (Brandi Campbell), D.J. Wells (Tonya Foley); seven grandchildren, Devin, Aaron, Nylla, Easton, Lennox and Oaklyn; two great-grandchildren, Makayla and McKinley; beloved dog, Tinkerbelle; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 25, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Randy Osborne officiating.  Entombment will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Hazard.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.
