James Barlowe

James Randolph Barlowe, 77, of Hazard, died Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Hazard, November 12, 1942, the son of the late Charles Barlowe and the late Carrie Combs Carlowe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Edward Barlowe and Charles Woodrow Barlowe; two sisters, Mary Katherine Woods and Angeline Fowlkes; two sons, Michael Glenn Barlowe and Jimmy Dean Barlowe.  He loved playing golf, watching U.K. basketball and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cena Barlowe of Hazard; son, Jeffery Allen Centers (Lexie) of S. Car.; three daughters, Jennifer Denise Smith (Les) of Hazard, Bobbie Jo Barlowe (Rachel) of Harrodsburg, Ashley Michelle Tilford (Keith) of Leitchfield; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Rodney Smith and Virgil Hurt officiating.  Burial followed in the Englewood Cemetery, Christopher.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Beatrice Campbell

Beatrice (Aunt Bea) Campbell, 96, of Fairborn, OH., died Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

She was born October 25, 1923 in Hazard, the daughter of the late Rufus Combs and the late Sarah (Brewer) Combs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, PFC Joseph Campbell; three sisters, Christine Combs, Dessie Mae Smith and Betty Jean Combs; five brothers, Hubert Combs, Flem Combs, Shelby Combs, Sam Combs, and Alfred Combs; one niece, Nora Eversole; brother-in-law, Ernest Ray Moore; son-in-law, Lt. Col. Frank L. Rubino (U.S.A.F) She was a Godly woman and was very active with Victory Church since the 1940’s. Her claim to fame was being the oldest member of Victory Church. She was known for her “down home” country cooking. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, tent revivals, camp meetings, and holiday decorating. She won numerous awards from the city for her Christmas displays. More than anything she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all of those who loved her.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Rubino of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; sister, Pauline Moore; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, at the Dwarf Church of God.  Burial followed in the Brewer Cemetery, Coates Branch.  Arrangements were under the direction of Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.

Juanita Moore Nunley, 83, of Hazard, died Monday, November 25, 2019, at Hazard Health & Rehab.

She was born in Hazard, December 1, 1935, the daughter of the late J.E. Moore and the late Polly Moore.  She was a former Nurse Aide for the Hazard Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Joe Chandler; second husband, Millard Joe Nunley; two sons, Happy Chandler and Matthew Chandler; and a host of siblings.

She is survived by two daughters, Mattie Marie Banks, Linda Phillips (Larry); four sons, Beni Chandler (Jenny), Joseph Chandler (Connie), Grover Chandler (Antonia), Jerry Chandler (Teresa); three sisters, Zola Kerns (Ted), Eva Jean Fraley (Bill), Modeane Begley; one brother, Beni Moore (Patricia); 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel with Rev. Rodney Smith officiating.  Burial followed in the Moore Cemetery, Uper 2nd Creek.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

Wanda Faye Seals, 76, of Hazard, died Friday, November 29, 2019, at Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center.

She was born in Perry County, November 15, 1943, the daughter of the late Daley Clay and the late Lula Watts Clay.  She was a service representative for the Social Security Administration for over 35 years, an avid University of Kentucky Sports fan and loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Chaney; as well as three brothers, Estill, Carl and Vernol Clay.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carl Seals; one daughter, Carla S. Seals of Hazard; one son, James R. Seals of Hazard; one brother, Ralph Clay of PA.; one grandchild, Michael D. Miller (Lexy); special pet, Lexi; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, December 7, at the Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel.  Arrangements were under the direction of Maggard’s Mtn. View Chapel of Hazard.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the HCTC Scholarship fund or the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center (Bluegrass Care Navigators at 57 Dennis Sandlin MD Cove Hazard, KY 41701) in her memory.
