For the past 24 years Save-A-Lot has put on its Race Day. 

On May 22, the Kentucky River Community Band Concert was held at the Hazard Community and Technical College. Admission was free, but food donations for the Hope House were accepted. The musical selections for the night were as follows: “The Star-Spangled Banner”: words by Francis Scott Key (1779-1843), music by John Stafford Smith (1750-1836), band scoring by Michael J. Miller (ASCAP), and soloist: Renee Chapman; “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”: traditional version, arranged by Johnnie Vinson; “Michael Jackson: Through the Years”: arranged by Michael Brown; “Royal Garden Blues”: traditional version, arranged by Paul Nagle, quartet: Kara Gayhart, Jordan Riddell, Jake East, Ryan Francis; “Stucke Fur Fagott und Violoncello”: Paul Hindemith, duet: Bobby Shouse and Tara Brown; “Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire)”: music by AR Rahman, lyrics by Gulzar and Taruvi Shah, arranged by Michael Brown; “Marches of the Armed Forces”: arranged by Michael Sweeney; and “My Old Kentucky Home”: by Stephen Foster. The band wishes to make a special thanks to the Appalachian Arts Alliance, HCTC, Foundation for Appalachian KY, Brandon Smith, Margaret Keith, Tim Dunn and Hazard High School for practice space.
