The Hazard Bulldogs picked up an 11-6 win against Letcher Central Monday in the opening round of the 14th Region Tournament.

Perry Central picked up a 17-0 win over Jackson City in five innings in the opening round of the 14th Region Tournament.

Hazard followed that with a 10-0 win over Powell County in the region semifinals and Perry Central knocked off Knott Central 2-0 in the other region semifinals game. 

Hazard and Perry Central were scheduled to face off in the 14th Region Tournament championship game Wednesday night at Hazard. For complete game details, see next week’s Hazard Herald.

The Bulldogs led the game early on against Letcher Central, managing to create a significant gap between the two teams before the Cougars were able to score.

Hazard was able to make it onto the scoreboard early in the first inning making it a 1-0 ball game and dominated Letcher Central early, keeping the Cougars from scoring.

Hazard’s Bryson Parks opened the second inning of the game with a home run, making the score 2-0.

With the bases loaded later in the second, an error on Letcher Central allowed Hazard’s Trajon Campbell to slide into home and a second run scored on the play to give Hazard a 4-0 lead.

Hazard was able to exit the second inning up 7-0.

A ground-rule double by Campbell in the beginning of the third gave the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.

Hazard maintained its lead through the fourth, but Letcher Central tried to bounce back in the bottom of the fifth, managing to bring the score to 8-5.

The Bulldogs were unable to score in the seventh, but Letcher Central was able to make it on the board again to cut the lead to 8-6.

Hazard went on to score three more times in seventh ending the ball game with a score of 11-6.
