Dylan Cornett scored 19 points to lead Perry Central over visiting 14th Region rival Breathitt County 78-65 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Thursday (Jan. 2).
After notching the win, Perry Central improved to 4-9.
Breathitt County dropped to 4-6 after suffering the loss.
Perry Central shot 54.5 percent (30 of 55) from the field. The Commodores were six of 19 (31.6 percent) from three-point range.
Perry Central shot 60 percent (12 of 20) from the free-throw line.
Cameron Fugate followed Cornett in scoring for the Commodores, adding 16 points.
DAndre Reed accompanied Cornett and Fugate in double figures for Perry Central, posting 13 points in the winning effort.
Dawson Duff narrowly missed reaching double figures for the Commodores, netting nine points.
Tyler Day (seven points), Dylan Brock (six points), Rydge Beverly (five points), Jamel Hazell (two points) and Mason McAlarnis (one point) combined to account for the rest of the Commodores’ individual scoring.
Breathitt County shot 47.8 percent (22 of 46) from the field. The Bobcats were five of 15 (33.3 percent) from three-point range.
Breathitt County shot 80 percent (16 of 20) from the free-throw line.
Jack Fugate paced Breathitt County with a team-high 17 points. Fugate was four for five from the free-throw line in the Bobcats’ loss.
Braxton O’Hara provided a double-double for Breathit County, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The other scorers for Breathitt County were Luke Bellamy (nine points), Jaylen Turner (eight points), Tyler Christy (seven points), Bryce Hoskins (five points), Andrew Combs (three points), Matthew Stevens (two points) and Charles Collins (two points).
