HAZARD — Misty McAlarnis is returning home. Perry Central High School has announced McAlarnis as its new girls’ basketball head coach.
McAlarnis, a Perry County native, spent the 2018-19 season as the head coach of the Breathitt County girls’ basketball team. She guided the Lady Cats to a 55th District championship. Under the direction of McAlarnis, Breathitt County concluded the 2018-19 season 19-13 after reaching the semifinals of the 14th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
Prior to making the move to neighboring Breathitt County, McAlarnis was an assistant coach on the Perry Central girls’ basketball coaching staff.
McAlarnis takes over for longtime head coach Randy Napier. One of the state’s top all-time coaches, Napier stepped away from the bench recently.
As a player, McAlarnis captured a state championship in 1994. She plated under Napier.
McAlarnis will guide the Perry Central girls’ basketball team throughout the summer. The Lady Commodores will begin preseason practice in mid-October. The Perry Central girls’ basketball program has not yet finalized and released its schedule for the 2019-20 season.
