EASTERN — Winning on the road, Perry Central managed to shake a slow start to pull away to defeat host Floyd Central 11-4 in a non-district high school softball game on Monday.
Perry Central improved to 10-9 with the win.
With the loss, Floyd Central dropped to 3-14.
Following a scoreless first inning, Perry Central plated one run during its second plate appearance. The Lady Commodores moved out in front and never trailed. Perry Central led 5-0 before Floyd Central answered.
The Lady Jaguars manufactured four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Still, Perry Central eventually pulled away to win. Excelling late, Perry Central plated six runs in the top half of the seventh inning.
Kim Hughes was the winning pitcher for the Lady Commodores. Hughes pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out seven and walking zero over seven innings.
Ashley Bellamy took the pitching loss for the Lady Jaguars. Bellamy allowed 12 hits and seven runs while striking out six over six innings.
Perry Central outhit the Lady Jaguars 13-8. Hughes, Jamie Pollard, Rylie Feltner and Crystiana Couch each managed multiple hits for the Lady Commodores. Pollard led Perry Central at the plate, providing three hits in four at-bats.
Perry Central used a balanced offensive attack to pull out the win. Couch and Emilee Eversole drove in three runs apiece for the Lady Commodores. Active on the basepaths, Perry Central Commodores stole nine bases in the winning effort.
Kayci Stumbo went two for three at the plate to lead Floyd Central in the hits column. Chelsea Johnson, one of six Floyd Central players to connect for one hit, drove in two runs.
