The Belfry Lady Pirates came back late in the game Friday evening after being down five runs to pick up a 6-5 win over the Perry Central Lady Commodores.
In the top of the first, Perry Central’s Lauryn Amburgey hit a two-run single to give the Lady Commodores a 2-0 lead.
Perry Central extended its lead in the top of the third after Lexi Haddix hit a home run to open the third resulting in a 3-0 game.
Belfry tried to come back with Linzee Phillips msking it to first base early in the bottom of the third, but, Perry Central was able to hold off the Lady Pirates again, keeping them off the score board.
Perry Central was able to score two more times in the top of the fourth, after loading the bases, extending their lead to 5-0 which they would maintain until the bottom of the fifth when the Lady Pirates seemed to find their rhythm and were able to make it onto the board.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Belfry’s Kaelyn Stafford was able to connect allowing two of her team-mates to make it to home, putting the Lady Pirates on the board 5-2.
But, the Lady Pirates weren’t done in that inning as another hit by Katey Pigman allowed Stafford to make it home from third, making it a 5-3 ball game going into the sixth.
Neither team were able to score in the sixth, leaving Perry Central to try to extend their lead in the top of the seventh to try to win the game, but the Lady Commodores were unable to do so.
Errors on two plays in the bottom of the seventh allowed Belfry’s Lexi Haddix and Kamryn Noe to make it on base and a hit by Stafford allowed Haddix to score making it a 5-4 game.
Another hit by Pigman allowed Noe to go home to tie the game 5-5.
With the bases loaded, in the seventh, an error allowed Stafford to make it from third to home, sliding into the plate to win the game 6-5.
